Pharmacy services

As recommended by the South Dakota Medicaid Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, only the following OTC products are covered.

• Non-sedating antihistamines.
• Lice treatments (e.g. permethrin).
• Iron for children under 2 years old and females 12 – 50 years old.
• Low-dose aspirin for females 12 – 50 years old.
• Narcan (naloxone) nasal spray.

Covered OTC products must have a signed rebate agreement with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and must be ordered by a prescriber via a legal prescription. OTC drugs are to be dispensed to Medicaid recipients in the same manner as legend products.
